2019 Overlay & Curb Ramp Project

Sidewalk and ADA ramp replacements 48th Ave W and 188th ST SW

TRAFFIC & PEDESTRIAN IMPACTS:

  • Expect temporary lane closures along 188th during construction. When road construction reaches an intersection a Uniformed Police Officer will safely direct vehicles and pedestrians through the intersection. Otherwise, for your safety, please follow all other instances of traffic control.
  • During working hours, crosswalk ramps along 188th will be undergoing construction. During this time detour routes and flaggers will control all pedestrian crossing. During the weekend the crosswalk ramps along 188th will reopen, and the detour signage will be removed.
  • Sidewalk routes through the construction zone are still open for pedestrian travel with compacted gravel replacing the concrete temporarily until the new ramps can be constructed. Pedestrian detours have also been set up in areas where demo work and concrete placement is in progress.

Last Week:

  • Removal and replacement of the curb ramps, sidewalks and curb/gutter along 188th St SW between 48th Ave and 55th Ave West this week.
  • The curb ramps at 55th Ave, 51st Place West, 52nd Ave and 48th Ave West have all been removed and will be replaced with ADA compliant ramps.
    • Portions of the curb & gutter and sidewalks in those locations have also been removed and will be replaced to accommodate construction of the new ramps.
    • Concrete work at these intersections are expected to continue into next week.

This Week:

  • Continuing work on sidewalk and ADA ramp replacements along 188th ST SW at the intersections of 51st Pl W, 52nd Ave W and 48th Ave W.

    • Pedestrian access remains available at these locations with channeling devices setup to guide foot traffic through the construction zone.
  • Work on 188th St SW for pavement repair also began this week with the full depth removal and replacement of deteriorated asphalt sections.
  • During working hours traffic is reduced down to one  direction of travel  with flaggers and Uniformed Police Officers directing flow through the construction zone.
  • Commuters should also expect detours for certain directions of travel on 188th St SW during paving operations to facilitate traffic volume and alleviate congestion.

Working hours during paving operations are from 7:00AM – 6:00PM, after hours two lanes of travel will remain open at all times.
