Lynnwood Detectives arrest suspect in Drive By Shooting

LYNNWOOD, WA (April 11, 2019) -  Yesterday, April 10, at approximately 6:00 AM, Lynnwood Police responded to a shooting that occurred in the 20400 blk of Hwy 99.   There they contacted a subject who reported he had been traveling south on Hwy 99, in his Mini Cooper,  when another vehicle started flashing its lights at him and driving recklessly.  In the area of 188th St SW and Hwy 99 in Lynnwood the two cars ended up side by side and the driver of the suspect vehicle kept looking over at the victim.

The vehicles continued southbound and at approximately 204th St SW and Hwy 99 in Lynnwood the vehicles again ended up side by side.  The suspect driver started to be verbally aggressive with victim and then the victim saw the barrel of a rifle being pointed at him by the suspect.  The vehicles started forward and the victim said that he saw the barrel of the rifle still pointed out the window and then saw a flash and heard a gunshot.  The victim said his car started to sputter and he realized that the other driver had shot at him and struck and his car.  Officers confirmed that the Mini Copper had an apparent bullet hole near the front passenger headlight and was leaking fluid.

A witness saw this occur and stayed to speak with police.  That witness later realized that they had caught the incident on a dash camera in his car and provided the video to a Lynnwood Officer.  Detectives were able to search the partial license plate in the video and found a vehicle, 2005 Honda Accord, that matched the suspect vehicle.  There was a subject associated with that vehicle, who matched the description provided and also had active warrants out for his arrest.  The victim was shown a photo lineup and positively identified this person as the driver who had shot at his vehicle.

Detectives located the suspect vehicle and initiated surveillance on it.  Eventually a subject, 20's year old male, came back to the vehicle and was contacted and arrested.  Detectives saw a rifle in plain view on the vehicles floorboard.  The suspect denied any involvement in the incident.   He was booked at the Snohomish County Jail for Assault 1st degree, Drive by Shooting, Malicious Mischief 1st degree and on a warrant for Driving with a Suspended License in the 1st degree.

Anyone who witnessed this incident or who has information is asked to contact Detective Arnett at 425-670-5669.
