Stabbing at the Alderwood Mall - Suspect in Custody

December 24, 2016 (Lynnwood,WA) - At approximately 5 PM Lynnwood Police responded to what was initially dispatched as a shooting, but then changed to a stabbing, that had occurred in the mall near JC Penney.  Police arrived and found a 19 year old male, being detained by a bystander and Alderwood Mall Security.  The victim, a mid 30's male, was found with a single stab wound and was quickly transported to the hospital. His condition is currently unknown.

This is still an active investigation, but preliminary information is that some type of fight broke out between the suspect and another teenage male.  The victim stepped in to break up the fight and was stabbed by the suspect. Other bystanders saw the confrontation and they along with Alderwood Mall security detained the suspect until police arrived.  The relationship between the victim and suspect is currently unconfirmed, though initial indications are that they did not know each other prior to the incident.

There is no known danger to the public, no suspects are outstanding and no one else was injured. The other teenage male is cooperating with the investigation. Lynnwood Police detectives are following up on this investigation.
