LYNNWOOD, WA (November 15, 2016) - On Monday, November 14, Mayor Smith and the Lynnwood City Council presented Excellence Awards to the 2016 recipients. The Honoring Excellence...and a great deal more awards were created as a way for the City to recognize a City Employee, a Citizen and a Business that demonstrates excellence, actively contributes to the community, and generally makes Lynnwood... a great deal more!
Employee Award: Amy Kirk (pictured here with Mayor Nicola Smith) is the Fitness Coordinator at the Lynnwood Recreation Center.
Amy consistently provides professional and high-caliber health and wellness services to our community and is truly dedicated to ongoing improvement and presenting a professional image on behalf of the City. Amy works diligently towards achieving and maintaining high standards, and continually works towards self-improvement in order to effectively teach, coach and support our customers. Amy's approach is to inspire and encourage others in a positive and engaging manner, providing support to individuals of all fitness levels and abilities.
Citizen Award: Wally Webster (pictured here with Council President M. Christopher Boyer and his Grandson) is an active volunteer in the Lynnwood community.
Wally Webster moved to Lynnwood with his family in 1979 and quickly became an active participant in neighborhood community building and city issues. Wally has been a model citizen for the community at-large and has used his talents and dedication on a wide variety of social, educational, and community-building matters. Wally has served, and continues to serve, on several commissions and advisory groups such as the Neighborhoods and Demographic Diversity Commission, the Edmonds Community College President's Advisory Council, Board of Directors for the Shepherd Garden Senior Housing, Lynnwood Sister City Association, and the Police and Communities of Color Taskforce, to name a few. Wally has a servant's heart and he has invested and is committed to making Lynnwood a better place.
Business Award: Experience Momentum (Owners Shanon and Kelly Tysland pictured here with Council Vice President Benjamin Goodwin and their two children) is a local business that provides physical therapy, nutrition, and fitness services.
Experience Momentum has been providing physical therapy, nutrition, and fitness services in Lynnwood for nine years. Experience Momentum not only contributes to the economic vitality of Lynnwood, they also demonstrate excellence by being great stewards of our environment, giving back to the community, and encouraging their employees and customers to do the same. Experience Momentum is the City's first business to participate in the Adopt-a-Trail program, adopting a stretch of the Interurban Trail that runs adjacent to their facility. They have hosted several clean up sessions to remove mounds of invasive species and replanted native vegetation along the trail. Experience Momentum also donates 1% of their pre-tax revenue to a charity called "1% for the Plant."
The City of Lynnwood wishes to extend our sincere appreciation to the 2016 Excellence Award winners! Next spring, the City will begin accepting nominations for the 2017 awards. If you know an outstanding city employee, citizen or business that you would like to nominate, we want to hear from you!
