LYNNWOOD POLICE DEPARTMENT
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Domestic
Violence Awareness Month Honoring Survivors of Domestic Violence
 LYNNWOOD, WA
(October 09, 2015) – One in three
women will be a victim of domestic violence in their lifetime. While many
domestic violence incidents aren’t even reported, in 2014 the Lynnwood Police
Department responded to 770 domestic violence related calls, which means
officers responded to a domestic violence call every 11 hours.
In an effort to increase awareness of domestic violence in
our community several south Snohomish
County cities are giving
out free purple light bulbs for business owners and residents to shine on their
porch. The bulbs can also be purchased at most retailers.
This year the Lynnwood Police Department held a clothing drive and collected
over 600 items for Domestic Violence Services thrift store in Everett and the
Women's Shelter of Snohomish County.
What you can do:
- Install a purple light at your front porch to
show your support of Domestic Violence month.
- Donate, during the month of October, full-sized
toiletries to the front lobby of the Lynnwood Police Department. Accepted items are: shampoo/conditioner,
soap, toothpaste.
- Contact Lynnwood Police Department Victim Services Coordinator: Tiffany
Krusey, 425-670-5621 if you have questions
about domestic violence.
