Parks & Recreation Month 2015

Out is In

Summer is undoubtedly the BEST season in the Puget Sound and this July we’re celebrating 30 years of Park and Recreation Month!

Parks are the cornerstone of nearly every community, serving millions of people as the places anyone can go to be active, live healthier, connect with nature and gather together. Parks and recreation make our lives and communities better. This mission lives on and will continue to intensify into the future.

We’re challenging everyone to get gnarly and celebrate Park and Recreation Month 80s style—rock some big hair and leg warmers to fitness class, listen to some 80s jams during your morning walk or practice some of our favorite 80s dance moves in a park like: Moon Walk, The Worm, Electric Slide, Cabbage Patch, MC Hammer, Robot, or Sprinkler. Snap a photo and share your best 80s style visit and tag us on Facebook or Twitter with the hashtags #JULYPRM30, #ILoveMyPark #LynnwoodParks&Rec

Summer Walking Program

The Verdant Health Commission and the City of Lynnwood are partnering to get people walking outdoors this summer, and we hope you will join us! We are working with statewide non-profit Feet First to not only get people active, but also to promote walkable communities, by leading group walks that connect and inspire the community.

These free walks provide people with an opportunity to explore their community while meeting new neighbors. Led by Neighborhood Walking Ambassadors, these walks are intended to get people moving outdoors this summer in an inviting and friendly atmosphere.

Check out Verdant's website for a list of the currently scheduled walks. Or join us for Lynnwood's Homestead & History Tour on Monday, July 20th. Meet at the parking lot across from Fire Station #15 at 10am to learn more about some of Lynnwood's most significant historical sites and local Alderwood Manor history. The walk will last 2 hours with a mid-point stop at the Lynnwood Library allowing walkers to do the first half from 10am-11am, or the second half from 11am-noon.
