Dear Friends and Neighbors,

I am proud to have hosted the WHS Girls Volleyball team at the State Capitol this week. We gathered together to celebrate last fall's historic 4A State Championship.

As a former Wenatchee High School graduate and student-athlete, the team’s victory is a sense of pride for me as well as the entire Wenatchee Valley community. Winning a team championship in Washington state at the highest classification of 4A is an incredible achievement. Congratulations to the athletes, families, coaches, and district staff on this historic accomplishment.

First Volleyball State Championship in 40 years!

For the first time in 40 years, the Wenatchee High School Panthers are the 2023 4A WIAA Volleyball Champions. The WHS Girls Volleyball Team won their final match in the state tournament last November against North Creek High School by a score of 3-2, earning the second volleyball state championship in Wenatchee High School history.

Winning the state championship was a tremendous accomplishment. Congratulations to head coach Jordan McGregor-Hansen and assistant coaches Juan Sanchez, Emily Ervin, Michaela Sheehan, and Parker Iverson and the players themselves: Ava Jo Berry, Breven Luinstra, Jurney Jelsing, Jenissa Hepton, Keira Demirjian, Emme Tucker, Bri Sackman, Jess McIrvin, Sasha Dandridge, Rylee Jones, Claire Demirjian, Nikki Reed, Jalyn Rasmussen, Sienna Knell, and Maren Stuber.

This victory will be remembered for decades at Wenatchee High School and beyond. Hopefully. the lessons learned playing championship volleyball (goal setting, hard work, dedication, and determination) will extend to all aspects of these young girls’ lives. I wish them the very best in the years ahead, on and off the court.
