Dear 12th District Constituents,
I was very proud to host the Mt. Si Girls Cross Country team recently at the State Capitol. We gathered to celebrate the team’s 4A State Cross Country Championship from last fall. Mt. Si High School in North Bend is within the Snoqualmie Valley School District.
As a former cross country runner in high school and college, I have first-hand experience in this grueling sport. Winning a team championship in Washington state at the highest classification of 4A is an incredible achievement. Congratulations to the runners, families, coaches, staff, and community on this historic accomplishment.
State Champion Mt. Si Girls Cross Country Team
Congratulations to Coach Steven Crane and the Mt. Si Girls Cross Country team for winning their first ever 4A Cross Country State Championship last November. The 4A classification is the largest size of schools in Washington and features top runners from schools across the state.
Thank you to the Snoqualmie Valley School District and the community of North Bend for supporting the Mt. Si High School Cross Country program. I wish all the student-athletes at Mt. Si much success in 2024 and beyond.

Cross Country is a team effort
The sport of cross country is special because while runners compete based on individual effort, their total score is combined as one. This makes cross country a team effort. Unlike most sports, however, it’s the team with the lowest score that wins because the individual placement of each runner is added together with the lowest total score winning.
The Mount Si High School Girls Cross-Country Team members demonstrated their team's strength as Aleeya Cossey came in fourth place on the state’s 5k course, finishing with a time of 18:20.70. Hailey Cossey followed close behind at 18:28.90 arriving in fifth place. They were followed by teammates Ryan McLellan who came in sixteenth at 19:10.10. Runners Addison Craig placed eighteenth at 19:15.70, Brighton Dance placed twenty fifth at 19:23.70, Alexa Coughran came in thirty-fifth at 19:36.30, and Ellie Kampschror finished in sixty-first at 20:11.70. Senate Resolution Honoring Mt. Si Cross Country
I was proud to offer Res. 8650 alongside Sen. Mark Mullet who also represents North Bend. Recognizing the Mt. Si High School Cross Country was special with many people attending to show support, including representatives from Snoqualmie Valley School District, Mt. Si’s Athletic Department, Washington State Interscholastic Activities Association, and Mayor Mary Miller of North Bend.
