Please join me for my Legislative Session Previews!

December 21, 2022

Dear Friends and Neighbors,

Many of you are aware that the Washington Redistricting Commission recently approved new boundaries for the state’s 49 Legislative districts. The 12th District boundaries now reach over the Cascade Mountains into portions of Snohomish and King counties. Following these adjustments, legislative offices had restrictions related to official visits to the new areas until after the November elections. Soon after the elections in mid-November, I visited the communities of Skykomish, Index, Gold Bar, Sultan, Monroe, Carnation, and North Bend. Most of these stops included scheduled meetings with city and school officials, chamber representatives, social service providers, and first responders.

Meeting with these stakeholders was very helpful, but I would also like to connect with a broader range of community members. The cities of North Bend, Carnation, and Monroe are graciously hosting me at their city halls for “Legislative Session Preview” meetings. Meeting details can be found in the graphic below. Each session will last approximately one hour and will include a presentation from me for the first half and then audience participation (questions or issue sharing) for the second half. I look forward to meeting you and learning from you. I hope you can join me at one of the events.

Please join me for my “Legislative Session Preview” meetings. Each session will last approximately one hour. I hope you can make it to one of the city halls near you.

My public service commitment to you

I look forward to getting to know you better at these preview events. If you can’t make it, please know that my philosophy of service is that these positions exist for constituents. I pride myself in being accessible and available to communities – placing district residents first in the legislative process above all else. My office works very hard to represent everyone in the district, regardless of one’s political philosophy. In my office, we emphasize being great listeners, being helpful advocates, and providing excellent customer service. To learn more about me, please visit or view my 2022 November Newsletter.  Here is my public service commitment to you as your state senator:

  • Demonstrate a responsible use of tax dollars.
  • Continually focus on serving constituents.
  • Stay open-minded about issues before me.
  • Be a good listener and respect differences.
  • Answer questions directly and honestly.
  • Be a good communicator by sharing facts.
  • Always put public service before politics.

The 2023 Legislative session will convene on January 9th and is scheduled for 105-days. The main focus of the session will be developing the three state budgets (operating, transportation, and capital) for 2023-25 budget period.

Thank you for the opportunity to serve you

It is an honor to serve as your State Senator in the Washington State Legislature. The primary focus of the 2023 session will be developing the operating, transportation, and capital budgets for the 2023-2025. In addition to developing new state budgets, committees will conduct hearings and the Legislature will debate and update various laws. After two years of “hybrid” sessions during to the COVID pandemic, the upcoming session is expected to consist of mostly regular operations.

Many session days are spent in committees and in the Senate chambers. This photo shows me at my Senate floor desk reviewing various legislative amendments.

Hope to see you at my Legislative Previews

I hope you can make it to one of my Legislative Previews to learn more about what to expect this session. If not, please know that my office exists to serve you and to help you navigate through the process and assist you as best I can. Please feel free to contact me anytime. Thank you for the opportunity to serve as your state senator!
