July 1, 2019
Dear Friends and Neighbors,
July 4 is only a few days away, and many of you will spend our Independence Day holiday cooking outdoors with your families, enjoying various water-based activities in our area, or some hiking the many awesome recreational sites in our district. If you have a military veteran in your family or you know veterans within your community, please take time to thank them for their service in celebration of our freedom. However you choose to celebrate the Fourth, I hope you have a fun and safe time.
Risk of wildfires remains high this summer
With summer here, the risk for wildfires in our region and other parts of Washington is especially high. There already have been several small fires in or near communities in the 12th District, and we still have several more months of the “fire season,” though, as recent history suggests, wildfire is now a year-round concern.
According to the National Interagency Fire Center, an above-average potential for large wildfires is predicted this year due to drought conditions. I know many of you are well aware of the dangers of wildfires and that you take precautions to reduce the risk to your home and property. The state Department of Natural Resources recently posted ways for how to prepare for a wildfire if you live in a fire-prone area. The department also has a guide, called “Living with Fire,” designed to help homeowners learn to live in wildfire country.

We are fortunate to have several fireworks celebrations in the 12th District this week. These community-based events help us enjoy fireworks responsibly. Below is information on some of the local events that you can enjoy:
