2020 Session is underway!

Dear Friends,

I hope this finds you well and your 2020 is off to a successful and happy start.

With only 60 days allotted by the state constitution for the "short," even-year session, lawmakers arrived in Olympia this week ready to roll up our sleeves and get to work.

For those of us legislators who are committed to listening to the people of this state, that is good news for taxpayers. We have returned eager to find solutions to problems you want us to address. We have introduced bills to fight human trafficking, provide tax relief, make it easier to start or run a business, and keep energy affordable.

Unfortunately, others have come ready to push their own agenda. Despite record revenue they are looking for ways to raise your taxes, limit your freedoms and advance policies that, while political correct, do not make your family or community safer.

Please know that I will continue to fight for you this session, and I look forward to being your voice in Olympia.

Sincerely,

New Sig

Sharon Brown
State Senator
8th District

Senate Republicans are listening to you!

SRC MESSAGE: We're listening to you!

Think your state government isn't listening to you? You're not alone! Senate Republicans know you are frustrated over efforts to attack and dismiss your voices. In this week's video, my good friend and our Senate Republican Caucus Chair, Randi Becker, shares our approach to the 2020 legislative session. Watch the video above to learn more about how the Senate Republicans are working to help you achieve your American Dream.

Senate hearing on my bill to create a blockchain technology workgroup

blockchain

Thanks goes out to the brilliant men and women of the Cascadia Blockchain Council who came to the Senate on Tuesday to testify on SB 6065 -- my bill to create the Washington Blockchain Work Group, which will focus on examining various potential applications of blockchain technology. It was a great hearing. If you missed it, click here to watch for yourself

Key bills this session

I have a number of bills that I will be working on this session. Here are just a few I will be telling you more about over the next several weeks:

  • SB 6065 - Establishing the Washington blockchain work group.
  • SB 6429 - Providing a designation on a driver's license or identicard that a person has a developmental disability.
  • SB 5936 - Concerning use of industrial waste through industrial symbioses.
  • SB 6430 - Establishing a statewide industrial waste coordination program.
  • SB 5835 - Creating a hotline to receive reports of potential self-harm and criminal acts.
  • SB 5633 - Supporting and expanding behavioral health workforce pathway programs.
  • SB 5636 - Concerning fiscal notes.

You can follow all of my bill yourself online by clicking here. You can also watch committee hearings and floor debates live on TVW.org.

In closing…

Remote testimony now available in both the House and Senate!

winter drive

With pass closures and dangerous road conditions, week one of the legislative session showed us exactly why my colleagues and I have been fighting for remote testimony.

A Senate test of remote testimony has proven to be highly successful and popular, and now the House has agreed to also do a limited remote testimony pilot program, including on some bills from the Tri-Cities!

Click here to learn more about how, when and where you can testify remotely this year.

As always, I value hearing directly from you. I am here to be your voice, and your feedback on bills before the Senate is very important to me. If you would like to contact me please write, phone, e-mail, or stop by if you’re in the Olympia area.
