Creating and expanding jobs in our mental healthcare system

picture

Dear Friends,

Greetings from Olympia! We have reached the halfway point of the legislative session and have been busy all week in the Senate chamber, voting on bills.

While the Senate bills that have been sent over to the House of Representatives this session address a wide variety of issues, one of my biggest priorities has been to improve our state’s mental healthcare system. Some examples I’m working on include: getting more specialists into the mental health profession, providing tax relief to facilities that provide behavioral and mental health services, supporting and expanding behavioral health workforce pathway programs and expanding opportunities for students to pursue careers in the mental and behavioral health professions.

Check out my video below where I’m joined by nursing students from WSU Tri-Cities as we talk about mental health issues in our region.

As always, please let me know if I can be of assistance to you. Thank you for the opportunity to serve as your state senator.

Sincerely,

New Sig

Sharon Brown
State Senator
8th District

From the district: WSU Tri-Cities College of Nursing

Check out my legislative update where I’m joined by Kay Olsen, interim assistant director of WSU Tri-Cities College of Nursing, and some of her students for a talk about increasing patient access to mental health services.

Will you be coming to Olympia during the 2019 session? If so, contact my office and schedule an appointment – I would love the opportunity to visit with you, and, if the time is right, you could join me in my next video update!
