Carlisle II Refurbishment Complete

Kitsap Transit is pleased to announce the completion of the refurbishment of the Carlisle II, the oldest continuously operated vessel from the Puget Sound Mosquito Fleet era. Built in 1917, the vessel was taken last December to Haven Boatworks in Port Townsend and underwent a $1.3 million refurbishment.

The extensive work covered many of the vessel’s core components, including:

  • Replacing the engine and propeller
  • Installing engine room ventilation
  • Replacing the generator and repairing electrical wiring
  • Replacing all windows
  • Replacing exterior wood on the upper and lower levels
  • Replacing hull planking and internal structural components
  • Replacing the navigation controls in pilothouse
  • Repainting interior and exterior

The Carlisle II was previously refurbished in 2014. The 140-passenger vessel serves as a spare vessel on the Port Orchard-Bremerton route.
