Appeal deadline is August 31st
Change of Value Notices were mailed in June. If a value notice was not mailed for your property, your assessed value has not changed. These notices are determined based on the value of the property as of January 1, 2026, and will be used to calculate the 2027 property taxes.
You can review your value and property characteristics on the Parcel Details tool that is available online.
If you disagree with the value, you have until August 31st to file an appeal with the Board of Equalization.

New construction inspection update
Appraisers from the office are currently conducting new construction visits throughout the county. We anticipate these inspections will be complete by mid-September. These visits are made to verify the percentage of completion of the improvements as of July 31st. This new value will be added to the tax roll for next year’s tax distribution calculation.
If a new structure is being built or improvements being made to an existing property this year, a Notice of Value will be sent this fall, reflecting those changes in assessed value as of July 31st.
State regulations regarding new construction assessment can be found in WAC 458-12-342.

Are you planning to make an improvement to your home?
Washington state law offers a three-year property tax exemption on qualifying improvements. You will need to apply with the office prior to the completion of construction. If approved, the taxable value of your home will not include the improvement value (up to a maximum of 30% of the assessed value of your home prior to the improvement). At the end of the exemption, the value of the improvement will be added to the value of your home.
More information, as well as the application, is available on our website.

Bremerton physical inspections beginning soon!
Did you know that Washington State law (RCW 84.41.030) requires the Assessor’s Office to physically inspect all parcels within the county at least once every six years? As property characteristics change, they may impact the overall value of a property and the Assessor’s Office must continually update the data on record for each parcel to accurately determine value. These values help to ensure equitable tax distribution for all parcels.
Physical inspections will begin soon in the greater Bremerton area (area number five) and will continue through Spring 2027. As a result of these inspections, any changes to a property’s characteristics and value will be reflected on the Notice of Value that will be mailed next summer and will be used when calculating 2028 property taxes.
