Stephen Corcoran bio image

“Steve” Corcoran recently joined our team as the Veterans Program Coordinator in the Veterans Services Division where he and our contracted community partners assist all Kitsap County indigent veterans with delivering services and guiding them back into mainstream society by ensuring they understand all the programs available to them and access the resources to succeed.

Steve is a 20-year U. S. Navy veteran of the Submarine Service, having retired in 2007, serving on 4 submarines and completing 2 shore duty tours. His most successful tour was at Trident Training Facility, Bangor WA., when he was selected as Sailor of the Year of Submarine Learning Center in 2003, competing for Shore Sailor of the Year. Steve recently retired from Lockheed Martin, after 15 years of service, at Strategic Weapons Facility, Bangor WA. Steve started as a nuclear weapons handling supervisor, leading teams, focusing on safety and security during movements of these weapons, located on submarines and processing facilities. He then transferred to the Technical Services Building and assumed the position of Fleet Scheduler, supporting calibration services for 10 submarines and multiple customers throughout the Pacific Northwest region, Steve holds a bachelor’s degree in Workforce Education and Development from Southern Illinois University at Carbondale, and a master’s degree in organizational leadership from Chapman University.

As a resident of Kitsap County since 1989 (except for 6 years), Steve is a very active member of the veteran community. He is a life member of the American Legion Post 149, Veterans of Foreign Wars, Post 2669, Disabled American Veterans, Post 5, Fleet Reserve Association, Branch 29 and his favorite, United States Submarine Veterans, INC., Bremerton Base, where he is a past Base Commander, and served 12 years on the Executive Board.

Steve and his wife Tara reside in McCormick Woods in Port Orchard, with their 2nd rescue “puppy” Gwennie. Steve and Tara have 2 grown boys, Jason and Sean.  Tara enjoys crafting and scrapbooking and is very artistic with much talent, which keeps her busy. Steve enjoys supporting his veteran groups and grilling on his Weber “Performer” charcoal grill, especially with cast iron accessories.
