Starting this year, the Department of Community Development (DCD) is making significant changes designed to improve the customer experience through their Permit Review Efficiency Plan (PREP).

Silverdale Center Plan
Following the December 2024 adoption of the County's Comprehensive Plan, this year will focus on the Silverdale Regional Growth Center Subarea plan (aka Silverdale Center Plan).

Year of the Rural
This year, we're taking a look at rural land use reclassification, updating the rural and resource lands chapter, and making updates to rural codes. We call it the "Year of the Rural" and hope you will join us in creating a comprehensive plan for Kitsap's rural and resource lands. A great place to start is taking the Rural and Resource Lands Chapter Update Survey. Other ways to engage can be found below.

Pledge to “Include the Food”
Kitsap County's Solid Waste Division is giving away compost toolkits to encourage you to “Include the Food” in your existing yard waste carts. The compost toolkits will help you store and carry food scraps from your kitchen to your collection cart.
Take the Pledge to "Include the Food"and claim your free composting toolkit while supplies last.

2025 BOCC Meetings Schedule
This year the Board developed a new meetings schedule designed to improve accessibility and public engagement. The changes offer more opportunities for community involvement through varied meeting times and formats.
NEW Board of Commissioners Meeting Schedule:

AM Work Session: Mondays at 9 a.m. (except the 4th & 5th Mondays and holidays) in the Port Blakely Conference Room and via Zoom.

PM Work Session: Mondays at 2 p.m. (except the 5th Monday and holidays) in the Port Blakely Conference Room and via Zoom.

Work Session: 9 a.m. every Wednesday of each month and 1 p.m. on the 4th Wednesday of each month (except holidays) in the Port Blakely Conference Room and via Zoom.

Regular Business Meeting: 5:30 p.m. on the 2nd Monday of the month (except December and holidays) in the Commissioner Chambers and via Zoom.

WSF Community Forums
Washington State Ferries invites community members from throughout Puget Sound to join its next pair of virtual meetings.
WSF leaders will answer questions from the public and provide the latest information about service restoration, building new ferries, electrification of new boats, and the current legislative session.
Registration is required so be sure to sign up for one of the online meetings scheduled for Wednesday, Feb. 12 at noon, or Thursday, Feb. 13 at 6 p.m.

Join the Central Kitsap Community Council (CKCC) at their regular monthly meeting, Wednesday, March 6 from 5 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. at the Central Kitsap Fire & Rescue Administration Building.

Each year, Kitsap County Public Works and the Board of County Commissioners celebrate environmental stewards with Earth Day Awards. Award recipients are celebrated for their work in environmental education, habitat restoration, recycling, litter control, water quality, and more. We’ll celebrate award recipients at the Board of County Commissioner’s meeting on April 14, 2025.

On Saturday, Feb. 8 from 10 a.m. to noon, the Great Peninsula Conservancy (GPC) will be holding an open house at the Clear Creek Sa’qad Interpretive Center. The center, also known as the “Red Barn”, is located at 9641 Levin Rd NW in Silverdale.
GPC leaders will discuss plans for the Clear Creek Trail, their new Joint Use Agreement with Kitsap County, and GPC's recent purchase of the Petersen Farm. Learn about the many ways community members and businesses can engage.

The Kitsap Public Safety Citizens Academy is a collaborative effort between Central Kitsap Fire and Rescue and the Kitsap County Sheriff’s Office aimed at enhancing the safety and quality of life in the county.
The free academy is open to residents countywide ages 18 and over. Classes will be every Thursday from April 17th to June 12th, with graduation on June 14th.The nine-week program alternates weekly between fire and law enforcement topics and is designed to provide hands-on learning. Fire-related sessions include an overview of fire service history, demonstrations of firefighting equipment, insights into emergency medical services, and training in technical rescue operations such as rope rescue and auto extrication. Law enforcement classes will cover use of force and de-escalation techniques, corrections, patrol operations and investigations.
