November 2024
Hello Central Kitsap!
As your County Commissioner, I’m excited to share updates on the work we’re doing to support our community. From collaborating on innovative projects to celebrating local achievements, every month brings new opportunities to make Central Kitsap an even better place to live, work, and thrive!
Recently, I attended a community meeting in Tracyton, joined by our Road Manager, Community Resource Officer, and a Sergeant from the Sheriff's Traffic Division. It was inspiring to see so many engaged residents come together to discuss local issues and solutions.
This was the second year I was invited to participate in the Kitsap County Commission on Children & Youth and Kitsap Public Health District's Youth Forum. This event provides an invaluable platform for youth to share their concerns, ideas, and priorities directly with community leaders who shape the policies affecting their lives.
It was an honor to celebrate the incredible women recognized at the YWCA Women of Achievement luncheon, join the groundbreaking ceremony for Kitsap Community Resources' new 9-unit townhome project providing permanent supportive housing for low-income families in Manette, and welcome the inaugural chapter of the Philippine Nurses Association of Western Washington—the very first in our state. Additionally, I had the privilege of introducing Leo Flor from the Seattle FIFA World Cup 2026 local organizing committee at the Kitsap Economic Development Alliance’s Fall Forum, helping prepare our business community for the exciting opportunities coming our way in the summer of 2026!
I also had the privilege of speaking at our Veteran's Day recognition event at the Kitsap County Fairgrounds Pavilion. A special shoutout to our facilities team, who lit up our Kitsap County buildings green as part of the Operation Green Light for Veterans initiative showcasing our commitment to supporting those who served.
As we approach Thanksgiving, I want to wish everyone a safe, happy, and healthy start to the holiday season. It’s an honor to serve this community, and I’m deeply grateful for the trust and opportunity to work alongside you. Thank you for being part of what makes Kitsap County so special.
Warm regards, Katie

Celebrating Innovation
Congratulations to the Clifton Clinic on receiving the Board of Judicial Administration Innovating Justice Award!
Last year, I had the privilege of collaborating with Peninsula Community Health Services and Kitsap County Juvenile Services to explore ways to repurpose a vacant portion of the Juvenile Detention Center. These efforts led to the creation of the Clifton Clinic. Nominated by Superior Court Judge Forbes, this award honors individuals or groups who demonstrate exceptional leadership in delivering innovative and responsive justice through a race equity lens. The Clifton Clinic stands out by not only providing healthcare but also offering case management services that connect individuals to essential resources like housing, transportation, employment, insurance, and other social services. Congratulations again to the Clifton Clinic team for this well-deserved recognition!

At the November 6th meeting of the Central Kitsap Community Council (CKCC), representatives from Kitsap County Public Works participated in a community conversation on traffic planning and forecasting. While the focus of the discussion was on West Silverdale, recent projects completed across Silverdale were highlighted. This included the completion of the Newberry Hill Culvert replacement, the Fairgrounds Road Sidewalk Improvement project, the emergency culvert replacement on Clear Creek Road, and continued work on the multi-phase Ridgetop Project.
Community members received information and had a chance to ask questions related to growth and infrastructure in Silverdale. You can see the material presented at the CKCC wepage.
Inform the future of our forests
The USDA Forest Service is seeking public input on a proposed amendment to the land management plans to address changed conditions with a focus on five key areas: wildfire resilience, climate change adaptation, tribal inclusion, sustainable communities, and conservation of old growth ecosystems and related biodiversity.
You can visit the Project Page to learn more about the effort and submit your comments here.
The Forest Service will review and incorporate feedback to develop a final environmental impact statement, anticipated in 2025.

HURRY - You can still inform the future of our airport
The Port of Bremerton is in the first phase of exploring the feasibility of introducing limited commercial passenger or cargo service at Bremerton National Airport.
Act quickly to provide feedback and help the Port understand the community’s interests, concerns, and questions about the airport. Visit their online open house and take a survey before it closes on Nov. 18.

Kitsap Public Health No-contact Advisory
No-Contact Advisory: A no-contact advisory was issued for Kitsap Lake on Nov. 17 and is in effect through Nov. 22.
During a no-contact advisory, avoid contact with water in the affected area. Public Health recommends against swimming, wading, or types of water recreation that could cause water to be swallowed or get into the mouth, nose, or eyes. Avoid direct skin contact with the water if possible and immediately wash with soap and clean water if you have exposure to the water.
