New construction notifications mailed

If you have been building a new structure or improved an existing one this year, you may be receiving a Change of Value Notice arriving around October 1st^.   This new value will include any improvements to the property as of July 31, 2024, and supersedes any prior notices received this year.

You may review your value and property characteristics using the Parcel Details tool on our website.  The Assessor’s Office is available to answer questions you may have about the new value.   If you disagree with this value, you have 60 days from the date on the notice to file an appeal with the Board of Equalization  

Physical inspection update

Our September newsletter shared information regarding the physical inspection areas and why the office must make on-site inspections.  Since that publication, residential appraisers have completed just over 16% of the inspections.  The goal is to complete the work by early April 2025.

If you live in the Port Orchard or North Kitsap inspection areas and are curious where the appraisers are currently working or wondering if they have already been through your neighborhood, go to the Assessor’s website and click on the banner referring to physical inspections in Port Orchard and North Kitsap which will display the inspection status map. 

Public outreach and presentations

A presentation on the Senior Citizen and Disabled Persons Property Tax Exemption Program will be held at the Manchester Community Advisory Council's meeting on October 1st.  The meeting will be held at the Manchester Library, located at 8067 E. Main Street, Port Orchard, starting at 6:30pm.

The Poulsbo Library holds Social Service Wednesdays the third Wednesday of each month.  Staff from our office will be attending the event on October 16th and will be available to answer questions about the Senior Citizen and Disabled Persons Property Tax Exemption Program.  The event will be at the Poulsbo Library located at 700 NE Lincoln Road, Poulsbo, on Wednesday, October 16th from 11:00am to 1:00pm.

Reminder!  Second half property taxes are due October 31st

The second half property taxes are due October 31st.  The Treasurer’s Office offers a variety of ways you may pay your property taxes.  For more information about payment options, please visit the Treasurer’s website. 

Are nonprofit organizations exempt from property taxes?

Even though a nonprofit organization may be exempt from federal taxes, they are not automatically exempt from property taxes in the State of Washington. 

In most situations, nonprofit ownership is required to qualify for the exemption and the organization must conduct an activity specifically identified in the exemption laws.  The use of the property determines if it is eligible for the exemption.

Nonprofit organizations must apply each year for the exemption with the Department of Revenue. For more information you may contact the Department of Revenue or view their brochure on nonprofit exemptions.
