Shoreline Living workshop and Beach Walk
Shore Friendly Kitsap recently held its annual Shoreline Landowner Workshop and Beach Walk on May 22nd, focusing on the theme of 'Shoreline Living.' Guest speakers Jessica Cote and Traci Sanderson from Blue Coast Engineering discussed essential topics for shoreline landowners, including nearshore habitats, various marine shoretypes, seasonal shoreline changes, human impacts on shorelines, and best management practices.

Focus Group Opportunity for Puget Sound Waterfront Property Owners
Join the Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife (WDFW) and Washington State University’s (WSU) Social and Economic Sciences Research Center (SESRC), on behalf of Shore Friendly, in a study on residential owners’ management of their shoreline. We're organizing online Zoom discussions in early July with shoreline property owners across the Puget Sound region. Your insights are invaluable, and no prior knowledge of shoreline management practices is necessary. Each session will last about an hour, and participants will receive a $20 e-gift card. Noxious Weed Disposal Pilot Program Kicks Off
The Noxious Weed Disposal Pilot Program is now operational.
Participation instructions:
1. Take your noxious weeds to the Hansville, Olalla, Silverdale garbage and recycling centers, or Bainbridge Island disposal site.
2. Inform the facility attendant that you are there to dispose of noxious weeds.
3. Complete a form with details such as your name, contact number, type of weed, and the location from which the weeds were removed.
Ensure your load is secure to avoid a $10 fee for unsecured loads.

A frequent question during site visits, concerns the stabilization of banks. The response can differ based on various factors, yet the recommendation to plant native vegetation is consistent.
Native species not only fortify the shoreline but also offer habitats and protection for fish and mammals, in addition to their aesthetic appeal.
