Change of Value Notices Being Mailed in June
Change of Value notices are set to be mailed to property taxpayers on June 21st. If you do not receive a value notice your assessed value has not changed from the prior year. The Assessor is required by state law to appraise all taxable property at 100% of the market value (RCW 84.40.030). These notices are determined based upon the value of the property as of January 1, 2024, and will be used to calculate 2025 property taxes. Click here to view the valuation timeline.
You can review your value and property characteristics on the Parcel Details tool.
For more information, you may want to view this 4-minute video that explains the difference between market value and assessed value.
If you disagree with this new value, you have 60 days from the date on the notice to file an appeal with the Board of Equalization. The Assessor’s Office is also available to answer any questions that you may have.

Did you know?
One of the responsibilities of the Assessor is to add all the newly constructed real property to the tax roll each year. During the late spring and summer months, appraisers from the office conduct new construction visits throughout the county. These visits are done to verify the percentage of completion of the improvements as of July 31st. This new value will be added to the tax roll for the next year’s tax distribution calculation. New construction value notices are typically mailed in September.
If an appraiser from the office arrives on your property this time of year, it is most likely to verify any improvements you are making to the property and that those improvements align with the plans on file. Please feel free to ask an appraiser any questions you may have.

Senior citizen and disabled persons exemption renewal
If you or someone you know is currently receiving the Senior/Disabled property tax exemption, they have to renew their application every four years. At the beginning of May, the office mailed out renewal notifications to those currently receiving the exemption and are needing to renew. If you received one of the renewal letters, you need to provide updated income documentation to the office no later than July 8th, otherwise you risk being removed from the program and receiving a new property tax bill for the full amount. Renewing is simple and can be done online! Please go to the link here.
