Kitsap Regional Library summer programs offer fun family activities

Central Kitsap Update
Kitsap Regional Library's Summer Learning program offers self-paced reading and learning experiences for school-age children and teens during summer break. Summer Learning also provides an engaging platform to participate in a self-selected learning activity and expand reading interests for adults. Click here to read the full list of summer programs.
One of the other great programs offered through the Kitsap Regional Library is the Read to a Dog program. Earlier this year, Commissioner Walters met with the Youth Services Librarian and a representative from Therapy Dogs International to talk about the value of the program. Learn more about the Read to a Dog program by watching Commissioner's Corner.
Be sure to sign up to receive notification of the next Commissioner's Corner, which was recently filmed at the Seabeck Community Center and explores the history and benefits of pickleball!

Roadwork project update

Central Kitsap Update

Construction of the NW Greaves Way and Old Frontier Road NW roundabout is suspended until late July due to supply chain challenges with the new roadway illumination poles. Construction on this project is not yet complete and crews will resume work once the new light poles arrive. The newly constructed roundabout is currently open with no restrictions. This project provides enhanced traffic flow and increases safety. Visit the project website at kcowa.us/Greaves.

Welcome to our new North Kitsap County Commissioner

Central Kitsap Update

After 16 years of service in the Washington State Legislature, Christine Rolfes is stepping down from the Washington State Senate and was sworn in June 20 to serve on the Kitsap County Board of Commissioners. Read more about the new Commissioner here.

In Washington, state legislative vacancies are filled by the board of county commissioners. The political party committee of the elected official who last held the vacant seat must submit a list of recommended candidates to the board of county commissioners who then must choose a new official from those recommendations. The Kitsap County Board of Commissioners is expected to take action on filling the vacated Senate seat in September. Click here to read more about the process to appoint a replacement.

Independence Day celebrations continue across Kitsap

Central Kitsap Update

Independence Day celebrations kicked off in a big way with the Bremerton Bridge Blast on June 25. In addition to a wonderful lineup of more than 60 vendors including crafts, food trucks, and live music, the festivities concluded with an impressive fireworks display over the Manette Bridge.

Here is a list of other Independence Day celebrations planned throughout the county!

A message from the Kitsap County Fire Chief's Association:

The Kitsap County Fire Chiefs wish everyone a safe and happy July 4th.  We encourage everyone to leave fireworks to the professionals and enjoy one of the public fireworks shows this season. If you choose to use fireworks, please be good neighbors and remember that fireworks may only be discharged throughout the county on the 4th of July from 11 am - 11 pm. The July 4th holiday is a busy time for firefighters and EMS responders – so let's be safe and give them a break.
