A Permit's Journey - Peninsula Home & Garden Seminar

This month's multi-part series of A Permit’s Journey will be an invitation to our live seminar at the Peninsula Home & Garden Show. Similar to our newsletter series, we will cover the basic steps that a general permit will take at Kitsap County. We will review four different types of permits with varying degrees of complexity. Also, please remember that your process may differ depending on the type of permit you seek or if you live outside of non-incorporated Kitsap County. If you live in a city, your process will follow that city’s steps.

May is Building Safety Month

Building Safety Month is celebrated in May to raise awareness about building safety. The campaign reinforces the need for the adoption of modern, regularly updated building codes, and helps individuals, families and businesses understand what it takes to create safe and sustainable structures.

The 2023 Building Safety Month theme is "It Starts with YOU!", and each week focuses on a specific topic: 

Week 1 (May 1–7): Building Safety Starts at Home

Week 2 (May 8–14): Building Safety Professionals and You

Week 3 (May 15–21): Prepare Your Community

Week 4 (May 22–28): Advocate for Your Community

Week 5 (May 29–31): Solving Challenges Together

Fee Forgiveness During Building Safety Month

If you have received a building code violation, now is the time to resolve it.   To celebrate Building Safety Month with our customers, the Department of Community Development (DCD) will waive investigation fees for anyone who submits a permit application between May 1, 2023, and May 31, 2023.  Permit fees still apply.

Virtual Inspections Your project may be eligible for a virtual inspection.  Please review the infographic below to learn more about the virtual inspection process.

Kitsap County’s 2024 Critical Areas Ordinance (CAO) update is underway with opportunities for the public to get involved and talk about all things:

• wetlands,
• streams,
• erosion hazards,
• landslides,
• aquifer recharge areas,
• and floodplains.

The Kitsap County Code (KCC) Title 19 CAO was last reviewed and updated in 2017. This update will ensure compliance with state mandates and consistency with local regulations and the Comprehensive Plan.

The County will hold a virtual public participation meeting

on May 17^th at 5:30 pm.
