The application period for nonelected, non-tribal Board members opened on May 23 and closed Monday, June 13.
The Health Board is expanding from seven to 10 members this year to meet the requirements of a recently enacted state law. Three nonelected community representatives and two nonelected tribal representatives will serve alongside five local elected officials on the restructured Board (scroll down for details).
Per state law, the three nonelected community members must represent three categories: public health/healthcare facilities, consumers of public health, and other community stakeholders. Multiple applications were received for each of the three positions.
Next steps for appointing nonelected Health Board members:
The Health Board's Personnel Committee will evaluate applications in June and begin interviewing finalists for each of the three nonelected community representative positions.
The Personnel Committee will nominate one applicant for each position to the Health Board and forward its recommendations to the Kitsap County Board of Commissioners.
The County Commissioners will appoint the three community representatives to the Health Board, based on these recommendations.
Nonelected community Health Board members are expected to join the Board at its regular September meeting.
Tribal representatives will be selected by the American Indian Health Commission through a separate process.
