Cooling stations open this weekend due to excessive heat
Tips for staying safe in the heat and while swimming at local beaches
The National Weather Service issued an Excessive Heat Warning from 2 p.m. Friday, June 25 through 1 p.m. Monday, June 28 for Western Washington with dangerously hot conditions predicted. High temperatures will range from the 90s and peak above 100 degrees Sunday and Monday.
In response, the Kitsap County Department of Emergency Management has coordinated cooling stations that will be open June 25-28 at multiple locations. Everyone is welcome to drop in during the days and hours noted below to seek relief from the heat. Bottled water will be available.
Please note the openings and hours of these cooling stations are subject to change due to the availability of volunteers.
For tips on staying safe in excessive heat, see the image below and link here to printable two-page flyers in English and Spanish that also include the symptoms of heat-related illnesses and prevention. More information is available on the Department of Emergency Management blog here.
The Kitsap Public Health District also offers tips on staying safe while swimming at Kitsap County beaches. With a hot weekend ahead, expect local swimming areas to be extra crowded. Take simple steps to protect your health and be respectful of beachgoers around you. The latest health advisories for local beaches and more tips on swimming safety are available here.
Due to rising fire danger, the Kitsap County Fire Marshal today imposed a Phase 1 Fire Danger Burn Ban on most outdoor burning starting at 12:01 a.m. on Saturday, June 26. Under the Phase I Burn Ban, all outdoor burning permits are suspended until further notice and all burning is prohibited except for recreational or cooking fires in approved devices and locations.
