Waste Facility Closures: Update

Kitsap County Public Works closed all waste facilities to self-haul customers on March 24, 2020 following the Governor's announcement of the two-week “Stay Home, Stay Healthy” Order.

We are now working on a Facility Access Plan to allow some customers access to some facilities. This plan includes multiple stages. After each stage, we will reassess our ability to protect people from coronavirus exposure and provide essential waste services. We could change course at any time, but we promise to keep you updated.

Stage 1 starts today. Businesses that provide an essential service or have waste that is a public health threat (putrescible waste, food, rat-infested, etc.) can request temporary weekday access to Olympic View Transfer Station. Requests will be processed within one business day.

Stage 2 is coming soon. If the Governor extends the "Stay Home, Stay Healthy" Order beyond two weeks, we will announce a process to allow more access to our facilities. If the order is lifted, we will return to (mostly) normal. Please subscribe to our facility alerts or monitor our facility webpage for updates.

We released an update on March 25 explaining why we closed and offering guidance for residents without curbside waste services. In addition to this guidance, we'd like to also suggest that neighbors work together to use existing curbside waste services.

Curbside waste services continue as normal. Please monitor your collection provider’s website for updates.

Thank you for your patience, understanding, and flexibility. This is only temporary, and we will all get through it together.
