Tip # 14 Now that you're prepared, learn how you can help others
Donate
If your health permits, give blood on a regular basis.
Become an organ donor.
Financially support non-profits and faith-based organizations that provide training and disaster relief.
Learn
Build your knowledge base about our local disaster hazards and their impacts.
Discover creative ways that you can store food items for extended periods and use those items to create tasty meals without using electric appliances.
Learn how amateur (ham) radio works and become a licensed operator. This communication resource will continue to perform even when newer technologies are disrupted.
Conduct a household hazard hunt for earthquakes to minimize the chances of injuries and increasing the likelihood that you will be able to stay in your home.
Connect
In addition to participating in the Map Your Neighborhood program, also take the time to connect personally with nearby neighbors. Know in advance how you can help each other in a disaster or extended power outage.
Get to know those who work at businesses and organization near your home. If disaster delays them from returning home, they may need your support.
Volunteer
Sign-up and receive training from Kitsap County Emergency Management, non-profits, or faith-based organizations that deploy disaster response, relief and recovery teams.
