Purchase a battery/crank powered radio

Be sure to include a AM/FM radio in your disaster supplies.

  • Store the radio and batteries in a Ziplock bag to keep the batteries fresh and ready to use.
  • For regional information on a disaster, tune into KIRO 710 AM / 97.3 FM and KOMO 1000 AM / 97.7 FM.
  • For Kitsap specific information, tune to KITZ 1400 AM.
  • For weather alerts in our region, consider loading the NOAA weather app or purchasing a NOAA weather radio

Purchase walkie talkies

A great way to stay connected with your immediate neighbors is with small two-way radios, especially when cell phone service may be impacted by a disaster.

  • The Family Radio Service (FRS) frequency walkie-talkies do not require a license use and are modestly priced.
  • Agree with your neighbors beforehand as to the channel you will use.
  • This is a great way to check in with each other and to coordinate your efforts in helping each other.
