No-contact advisory issued for east shoreline of Bainbridge Island and Indianola due to sewage spill in Seattle
Three-day no-contact advisory in effect through July 21
Affected area: East shoreline of Bainbridge Island, from Pritchard Park to Point Monroe, and north to Indianola. The advisory does not include Eagle Harbor.
Advisory: No-contact advisory
The Health District is issuing this advisory as a precautionary measure due to a spill at King County’s West Point sewage treatment plant in the early hours of Thursday, July 19. Modeling performed by King County and reviewed by the Washington State Department of Health show there is potential for sewage to impact the eastern shoreline of Bainbridge Island and Indianola.
During a no-contact advisory, the public is advised to avoid contact with the water in the affected area. This means the health district recommends against swimming, wading, or types of water recreation or play where water could be swallowed or get in the mouth, nose or eyes. People should also avoid direct skin contact if possible, and immediately wash with soap and water if they have exposure to the water.
Signs have been posted at public access points in the affected area.
