(Port Orchard, WA) -Kitsap
County voters will have more time to read candidate statements in the voters’
Pamphlet than they have in past years.
The
Kitsap County Auditor’s Office mailed the Local Voters’ Pamphlet for the August
7, 2018, Primary last week to every Kitsap County residence so voters will be
sure to receive their copy of the pamphlet by the time their ballot arrives.
“We
wanted to give voters more time to read the pamphlet and review candidate
statements in this primary. There are multiple candidates in several races, so
we think the extra time is better for voters,” said Dolores Gilmore, Kitsap
County Auditor.
Two
other big changes should make returning ballots easier this year. The county
added five more ballot drop boxes, one each in Seabeck, Naval Base Kitsap,
Keyport, Indianola, and at Olympic College’s Poulsbo Campus. Ballot drop boxes
provide a way for voters to deposit their ballots in secure receptacles
dedicated to elections. There are now a total of 22 ballot drop boxes
throughout Kitsap County.
The
other change for the 2018 Primary and General Election is no postage will be
required to return ballots. The state provided grant money this year to pay for
voters to mail in their ballots without a stamp.
Residents have until the end of day, Monday,
July 9, to register to vote online or by mail or to change their voter
registration addresses. Washington residents not currently registered in
Washington have until 4:30 p.m. on July 30 to register in person at the county
elections office. The Local Voters’ Pamphlet is available online by going
directly to kcowa.us/lvp.
