Kitsap Great Give 2018

Kitsap Great Give an opportunity to support county parks and many local non-profits

Kitsap Great Give, a 24-hour online fundraising event for local non-profit organizations, takes place April 24, beginning at midnight (though early giving has already opened). This year, joining the Kitsap Great Give is the newly created Kitsap County Parks Foundation, raising funds to preserve, support and promote Kitsap County Parks Department properties, facilities and open space, and continue to foster the ongoing development of public-private partnerships.

Kitsap County is 396 square miles in size. The Kitsap County Parks Department proudly manages 73 county parks, totaling 10,487 acres. The park system is unique in its features and demands with heritage parks, waterfronts and waterways, legacy parks, specialized parks, and community recreation complexes – each offering different recreational opportunities and experiences. The total acreage of Kitsap County parks has increased 67 percent since 2012, while the parks budget is only slightly more than it was in 2007. The Kitsap County Parks Foundation is working to bridge this gap and offer an opportunity for community partners to be a part of preserving and enhancing the county's greatest assets, and establishing a stronger financial support base.

The Kitsap Community Foundation hosts the Great Give as a way to bring awareness about the many non-profit groups in Kitsap that raise funds to support causes from human services, animals and arts to education and the environment. Kitsap County Commissioners will pass a proclamation April 23 in support of this countywide fundraising event. Those wishing to donate to multiple organizations can make their contributions on a single website. Great Give sponsors supplement donations, providing organizations added cash bonuses to help bolster individual contributions.
