(Port Orchard, WA) -
Kitsap
County’s Department of Public Works is making roadway improvements on
Suquamish Way NE, from Division Avenue NE to NE Hyak Lane. The project area is
part of the Mosquito Fleet Trail and is the only walking pathway from downtown
Suquamish to the Suquamish Tribal Administrative Center. Suquamish Way NE serves
as the main thoroughfare between Kingston and Bainbridge Island and can have substantial traffic during commute hours.
This project improves safety for pedestrians.
As
part of the project, the contractor will construct a 5-foot paved shoulder on
the north side of Suquamish Way NE and a 5-foot bike lane and 6-foot sidewalk
on the south side. A new stormwater treatment unit that uses specially designed
filter media to capture and treat storm water pollutants is also included in
the project.
The
4-month project begins Monday, April 16, 2018 and is expected to be complete this
fall. The roadway will remain open for
the duration of the project; however, motorists can expect traffic delays.
Flaggers will assist motorists through the project area.
The contractor will suspend work during the
following events, Chief Seattle Days,
August 17-19 and Tribal Journeys,
July 25-26.
The
work is being done by Sound Excavation
Inc. under a $881,000.00 construction contract. The work will occur during
normal working hours between 7:00 am and 4:00 pm
