Join KAC for drinks ($2) and light appetizers at the opening of the new exhibition: Observations from the New Gold Mountain, curated by Cheryll Leo-Gwin. The show features a mix of figurative work from Lu Yansheng, a visiting painter from Beijing, China. Complimenting his paintings is a collection of work by talented, local artists Alan Lau, MalPina Chan, Kathy Liao, Lily Liu, Barry Wong and Ron Ho.

About every 11 years, the sun becomes more active, which impacts us on Earth and the people and technology we put into space. While these periods of more active "solar storms" aren't new, scientists have recently become more concerned about the Sun’s activity. At the September Eastside Science Café, join Dr. Erika Harnett, University of Washington, as she explores the origin of solar activity, its impacts and how researchers are trying to reduce its hazardous consequences.

Kirkland Arts Commission seeks grant applications by Oct. 11 to promote arts, culture, heritage The Kirkland Cultural Arts Commission seeks innovative and creative ideas that showcase Kirkland’s arts, culture, and heritage. Artists and arts organizations who have a unique proposal that promotes performance art, literary art, and other artistic ventures are encouraged to apply. Proposals are due by 4 p.m. on October 11, 2013. The Commission has $2,500 available in funding. Proposed activities must occur within Kirkland city limits and occur before December 15, 2013.
