Carmen Souza is an incandescent female singer of Cape Verdean ancestry, a jazz-tinged chanteuse with a cool, smoky sound. Born and raised in Lisbon and now based in London, Souza grew up speaking both Portuguese and Cape Verdean Creole. Immersing herself in the traditional rhythms of West Africa and Cape Verde, she honed a highly personal sound combining traditional rhythms and song forms with jazz and Brazilian influences.

The City of Auburn, Washington invites sculptors to submit for Auburn’s Downtown Sculpture Gallery that celebrates art and underscores the critical role that artists and public art plays in a vibrant community.  The seven artworks selected for this temporary public art exhibition will be on loan to the City for a period of eleven (11) months (October 2013- September 2014) and available for sale to the public during that time.  The Downtown Sculpture Gallery showcases outdoor sculpture and promotes the program through events, online and social media campaigns, printed brochures, posters and postcards, TV commercials and various other promotional methods. 

Each artist will receive a $1000 stipend and at the conclusion of the exhibition a work/ works may be purchased for inclusion in the City of Auburn’s permanent collection.  The artwork is insured while on loan and the purchase budget is $10,000.  Application deadline is Monday, July 29, 2013.
