Project: Wastewater maintenance – Lake Washington
What: The City of Kirkland Wastewater Division in partnership with the Northshore Utility District (NUD), is preparing to clean specific sections of sewer pipe that run along the shore of Lake Washington. The sewer lake line was installed in 1961 to serve properties adjacent to Lake Washington. Wastewater personnel inspect the conditions of the lines with robotic video cameras. The video inspection results indicate that the section of line adjacent to your residence requires cleaning. The Lake Washington Line Cleaning Project will: 1) Minimize the possibility of backups, damage to homes, sewer overflows into Lake Washington, and beach closures; and 2) Benefit waterfront property owners, public and private parks, and the water quality of the entire lake.
Where: Because access to the wastewater lake line is limited, a barge will be placed in Lake Washington for easier access. Crews will be accessing the lake line located near the shoreline of lakefront properties via existing manholes. Specific locations include: south of Juanita Bay Park adjacent to 10th Street W/14th Avenue W and south of Carillon Point adjacent to Lake Washington Boulevard from the 5200 block to approximately the 4400 block of Lake Washington Boulevard.
When: The optimum time to start the project is when the lake is at the highest level and after fish migration. The work is scheduled to start Thursday, July 19 and continue on Friday, July 20 and Monday, July 23. The barge will travel to Kenmore and begin work there on the July 25th and July 26th. The construction schedule may change due to weather conditions. Work hours are scheduled between 7:00 am and 5:00 pm.
