Sixth St. South and Kirkland Way closure starts Sept. 24

Sixth Street and Kirkland Way Detour Route

The intersection of Sixth St. South and Kirkland Way on Kirkland’s Sixth St, will be closed starting Monday, Sept. 24 to allow for signals contractor, Johansen, to replace the intersection’s pavement with concrete pavement—which is more durable than asphalt pavement—and install traffic signal foundations on each of the intersection’s four legs. The intersection will reopen the morning of Saturday, Sept. 29. Johansen will establish detour routes around the closure.  Much of this work will go on at night and, at times, it will be loud. Thank you to the businesses and residents in this area for their patience during this time. More information is available on the Sixth Street Improvements project page. View the detour map.

Kirkland Fire Department responds to early morning fire at Rose Hill Village

Rose Hill Fire

Just after 3 a.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 12, the Kirkland Fire Department responded to multiple reports of a fire at Rose Hill Village, located at 12655 NE 85th St., Kirkland, WA. Firefighters reported heavy fire coming on the east side of the building and coming from the roof when they arrived. Initially firefighters attacked the fire from inside the building, but withdrew to the outside because of fire in the attic space. Two Kirkland firefighters experienced minor injuries, and were treated at the scene. The fire was extinguished hours later and crews remained on the scene for most of the day to complete the investigation and put out hot spots. The City of Kirkland would like to thank all of the units that assisted including Bellevue, Redmond, Bothell, Woodinville, and Eastside Fire and Rescue.
