Gun Safety and Community Safety outreach findings report now available
 |
Since May, our community has been in dialogue about the topic of gun safety and community safety. The City Council wanted to know the community’s views on methods of promoting safe and responsible gun ownership at the state and local level in order to reduce mass shootings, homicides, suicides and accidental shootings. The City hosted a town hall, conducted numerous focus groups and interviews and collected written comment from members throughout our community. All of this feedback has been compiled into an outreach findings report that will be presented to City Council at their next meeting on June 17, 2018. The report and presentation will inform the City Council as it considers potential changes to City ordinances and policies, City budget initiatives and the City’s state legislative agenda. The outreach findings report has been published and can be found at the City’s Gun Safety and Community Safety Outreach webpage. Join the conversation! The next in a series of free community dialogue events on the topic of gun safety and community safety happens on July 19 from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Registration information. This community conversation uses the City’s new KirklandTalks dialogue model that emphasizes listening to understand. For more information, please read the press release online.

Update on the Juanita Beach Bathhouse project
The project to replace the Juanita Beach Park bathhouse has been delayed by a decision of the hearing examiner for the City of Kirkland. The City had applied for variances that would have allowed the bathhouse to be placed in the designated wetlands and buffers adjacent to Juanita Creek, which runs through Juanita Beach Park. The City is considering appealing the ruling to the Washington State Shorelines Hearings Board. For more information, view the press release online.
