Welcome to the relaunch of the Learning and Development newsletter, or what we are calling the Learning Compass! Our newsletter will orient employees towards our True North through learning opportunities supported by the Career & Culture Division. The metaphor of a compass serves to highlight the guidance we offer employees as we all navigate creating organizational health through a values-aligned culture. Each month, we will be featuring trainings, workshops, courses, and other learning resources available to you as a King County employee. Think of this newsletter as your one-stop shop to centralized employee professional development!
The idea to revive this newsletter came about as a way to co-locate professional development resources at King County, provide specific training based on emergent needs, and to better communicate opportunities that are available to all employees, in support of the Investing in You strategy. To help you keep learning and stay engaged—qualities we feel are essential to delivering second-to-none customer service—we are focused on giving you a supportive place to grow. Learning and Development offers many avenues to develop and enhance your skills to assist in advancing your career within the County. Through eLearning you can take courses online at your own pace, engage in instructor-led classes in real-time (both virtually and in classrooms), or take courses through our partnership with the Seattle College campuses. We aim to support you in developing your skills, doing work that matters, and bringing your best, most authentic self to your daily work.
In keeping with the County’s sustainability goals and efforts, this newsletter will be distributed monthly in electronic format. Please print and post in areas of high visibility for those without consistent access to email.
We are one team! If you have ideas on what you’d like to see featured in this newsletter, please reach out to KCTraining@kingcounty.gov. We hope you enjoy this first edition of our 2021 Learning & Development newsletter, Learning Compass.
Happy Learning!
