Aha! Moments
You know the ones. They arrive as if by magic delivering the perfect, innovative solution to a problem. Revealing a connection that you didn't see before. Deepening your understanding and sparking sudden clarity.
They arrive as if by magic, but science is building our understanding of the conditions that help spark these insights. In her article, The aHa Moment, Lauren Migliore discusses two pre-conditions that are foundational for the Aha! The first: increasing new network connections in our brains. How? By continually acquiring new knowledge and skills. The second: putting yourself into innovative environments that foster insightful experiences.
Additionally, David Rock and Josh Davis, in their article 4 Steps to Having More "Aha" Moments, encourage us to notice the quiet signals, look inward, and step away from deliberation for quality decision making. Authors of both articles recommend cultivating a positive attitude as "positive emotions played an important role in the emergence of insight."
So as we work together to serve our King County community and create innovative solutions, watch for ways to encourage those Aha!s in yourself and others. Maybe one of the following opportunities might help you build those new network connections in your brain.
