King County Metro plans minor service reductions through Jan. 21
King County Metro is recovering from recent winter storms and is facing reduced workforce availability. At least through Jan. 21, Metro will operate more than 90% of scheduled service, however an increased number of trips will be canceled.
Before traveling, please allow for additional travel time and use Metro’s real-time travel tools to confirm whether your trip is operating or canceled. (See “Trip planning tools” below.)
While some specific trips in a route will be canceled, nearly all of our 160 bus routes on weekdays and weekends will continue. The exceptions during this recovery period are that routes 162, 177, 304, 320, and 330 will not run on weekdays, and route 125 will not run on Saturdays.
We apologize for the inconvenience and greatly appreciate your patience as our fleet is repaired and our workforce stabilizes.

Lower West Seattle Bridge to close briefly 3 times on Sunday, Jan. 16
Riders should prepare for expected travel delays on RapidRide C Line and routes 21, 50, and 120 on Sunday Jan. 16 due to brief closures of the lower West Seattle Bridge. These closures are for scheduled measurements of the bridge by the City of Seattle.
Due to the brief nature of the scheduled bridge closures, there will be no needed reroutes of buses.
The scheduled closure times are during lulls in traffic around 9 a.m., 1 p.m., and 5 p.m.
The Seattle Department of Transportation has announced the planned dates for these Sunday lower bridge closures: Dec. 19, Jan. 9, Jan. 16, Jan. 23, Jan. 30.
More information about these closures and possible travel impacts check out the Metro Matters blog.
Pets Ahoy! Water Taxi welcomes cats and dogs onto vessels
Now boarding the West Seattle and Vashon Water Taxi: cats, and dogs!
Starting January 12, our furry friends can ride with their pet parents. Animals must always be near their owner while riding:
- Dogs riding on the Water Taxi must be on their best behavior and be either on a leash or in a crate. Leashed dogs can go outside on the aft deck throughout the trip. Dogs in crates can ride in any part of the vessel.
- Cats must ride in an enclosed pet carrier within reach of their owner throughout the trip.
- Service animals, such as dogs trained to perform specific functions to assist someone with a disability, are permitted in the passenger cabin with reasonable accommodations made as needed.
- Emotional support animals whose sole function is to provide comfort or emotional support do not qualify as service animals under the ADA as they have not been trained to perform a specific job or task.
The new pet policy, and the installation of bike racks that can accommodate “fat tire” and electric bikes, are the result of the Water Taxi staff listening and responding to the needs of our riders. A growing number of riders use the water taxi as an alternative to driving, but for some it only works if they can bring their bike or their pet for the trip.
You can learn more on the Metro Matters blog.
Remember, “It’s a great day to ride Metro” to get to events and activities where there is often traffic congestion and limited parking.
