Final Radio Inventories Submitted: 17 of 103
The PSERN Final Radio Inventory process began three weeks ago, in January. King County Emergency Radio Communications System (KCERCS) customer agencies were sent their radio inventory and requested to confirm and/or update their information by completing the spreadsheet and returning it to the PSERN Project. We have received only 17 of the 103 agency inventories. Thank you to those agencies who have submitted their inventory!
It is very important that we receive all agency inventories. The agency deadline to submit final inventory is by March 8, 2021 because from spring to fall, the Project has to write over 600 radio templates in order to program the radios and begin deployments as planned. For more information, please visit the Final Radio Inventory page on the PSERN website where you will be able to find the latest information as we go through this process. If you have questions, please contact PSERN-INFO@kingcounty.gov.
Town Hall Webinars: Final Radio Inventory
To support customer agencies with completing their Final Radio Inventory, the PSERN Project Technical Supervisor, Sean Douglas, is hosting Town Hall webinar sessions. The Final Radio Inventory contacts were sent the original Town Hall announcement and the first Town Hall had about 30 attendees from 12 agencies. Click here to view the PSERN Final Radio Inventory Town Hall slides.
There are two additional Town Hall webinars coming up where you can ask questions and learn from your peer agencies. Click here to register for one of the below Town Hall webinars:
- Tuesday, February 9th from 10:00 a.m. – 11:00 a.m.
- Tuesday, February 23rd from 10:00 a.m. – 11:00 a.m.
If you have topics you want addressed during the webinars, please email PSERN-INFO@kingcounty.gov for Sean to review. The webinars will not be recorded, but theme questions will be incorporated into FAQ information on the PSERN website Final Radio Inventory page.

Although the PSERN Project has only officially been going for about five years, stakeholder planning has been occurring longer. Beginning in 2012, King County radio end-user subject matter experts (fire, law, public works, etc.) convened to determine the needed radio features and functions for their peers. Their decisions were then included in the PSERN Project RFP requirements. Motorola was selected as a vendor because their bid package best met the criteria requested by the end-user community. This process was repeated by the selected members of the PSERN Project Operations Board in 2018 and some adjustments were made. For example, some fire radios will be a high visibility green color to be seen through smoke, have larger knobs and buttons, and extra durability to withstand 500 degree heat. Police radios will remain a smaller size and also have Bluetooth enabled for desired usability.
On the Final Radio Inventory spreadsheets that customer agencies received, there is a column titled “PSERN Replacement Radio Configuration” and this lists the radios that your agency will receive in the exchange at the time of Radio Deployment. You can view details and images of these models on the PSERN Standard Radio Features and Functions Chart. Note that you may not receive the same model radios or features that you currently have today, but the equipment will meet the needs identified in the stakeholder requirements sessions and the PSERN Project Operations Board review. If you have any questions, please contact PSERN-INFO@kingcounty.gov.
