New King County C-PACER Program

C-PACER logo 1

King County is developing a Commercial Property Assessed Clean Energy + Resiliency (C-PACER) program, an innovative financing mechanism that enables property owners to fund energy efficiency, renewable energy, water conservation and resiliency measures on their facilities.

Qualifying commercial, agricultural, industrial, and multi-family property owners will be able to work with lenders to secure long - term financing that stays with the property, not the building owner.

We want to hear from you! Throughout the program development process, King County will seek input from a broad range of stakeholders to learn how the program can best serve the community and to increase awareness around the program before it launches later in 2021. Please visit our public input survey to tell us what you’d like to see in this program.

See the King County C-PACER site for more information, resources, and updates. This program aligns with actions in the proposed 2020 Strategic Climate Action Plan (SCAP) which you can read and download at kingcounty.gov/SCAP.

2020 Strategic Climate Action Plan in King County Council Hearings

SCAP cover

In August 2020, King County Executive Dow Constantine sent his proposal for the 2020 Strategic Climate Action Plan (SCAP) to the King County Council. The Council is currently considering the 2020 SCAP and working towards its adoption as the guiding plan and policy document for King County climate action!

The 2020 SCAP is in hearings at King County Council's Mobility and Environment Committee. One upcoming hearing is this week on Wednesday, February 24th from 9:30 -11:30 am. This week’s committee hearing will include a briefing on the Sustainable & Resilient Frontline Communities Section and the Preparing for Climate Change Section. Another hearing is likely on March 24th from 9:30-11:30 am. Topics to be covered at later dates will be set by the County Council. Please visit the committee website for full agendas and information on how to participate in or watch the briefings.

Climate Action Team Update

Jamie Stroble with interns

Jamie Stroble, King County’s Climate Equity & Community Partnerships Program Manager, recently accepted a new job!  Although we are sad she left the Climate Action Team in January, we are grateful for her nearly 5 years of leadership in climate change, equity, and community-driven policy-making.

Jamie developed and led the creation of our first ever climate justice section for the Strategic Climate Action Plan (SCAP), the Sustainable & Resilient Frontline Communities section, and founded the Climate Equity Community Task Force to co-develop climate actions directly with our most impacted frontline communities. She also led the transcreation projects to create culturally relevant climate infographics in multiple languages with community partners.

Pictured here with three of the many interns she hosted during her time at King County, Jamie (far left) is also passionate about supporting, mentoring, and creating pathways for young people and people of color in the environmental field. Jamie remains committed to climate action and climate justice and says, "I am both grateful and hopeful that the legacy of what we have built at King County – a foundation for climate justice and racial equity – will both continue on and grow." Jamie has taken a new position as the Climate Director with The Nature Conservancy of Washington, and continues to be involved in community work around environmental justice and leadership development.
