The PSERN Project (Project) is shifting its focus from radio site development to transitioning end users to PSERN. Between COVID impacts, dispatch center transition, some site development supply chain issues, and outreach/communications staffing changes, the Project has experienced some delays. Even so, the majority of site development work is behind us and the dispatch center transition occurred in October. Impacts to the Project schedule include urban areas site development being pushed out by a few weeks and next year’s radio deployment will also shift a few weeks to begin in October 2021. Now that our External Affairs Team is fully staffed, newsletters are back on the monthly cycle and will be sent out the first Thursday of each month!

We are excited to announce that the PSERN Project achieved a significant milestone on October 22, 2020, when the emergency radio system core and 17 dispatch centers were successfully transitioned to the new PSERN core. Additionally, over 130 consoles were transitioned, which includes all the consoles at the King County Sheriff’s Office, Northeast King County Regional Public Safety Communication Agency (NORCOM), Seattle Fire Department, Seattle Police Department, and Valley Communications (Valley Com). All First Responders throughout King County are now being dispatched through the new PSERN consoles. The cutover could not have been successful without the hard work of our KCERCS partners, Motorola, the PSERN team and all the dispatch centers. Thanks to everyone who made this effort a success!
Last year, the Project requested that each stakeholder agency provide their radio inventory as a preliminary step to estimate the volume of equipment that will need to be purchased for distribution next year. Starting in January 2021, we will be providing details on the process for Final Radio Inventory, so stay tuned. In the meantime, you can review the standard features and functions that are available on the PSERN Website here. Keep in mind that if you will be needing non-standard features or accessories, your agency will need to budget funds to pay for anything beyond what is listed on the PSERN website. If you have questions between now and January, please contact your Radio Shop.
