Transit Alert - Metro operates reduced weekday service on Martin Luther King Jr Day; ride transit to MLK Day and other weekend events; text your stop ID to 62550

On Martin Luther King Jr Day, Monday, January 20, Metro will operate its Reduced Weekday and University of Washington (UW) Reductions schedules.

While most Metro routes in Seattle operate their regular schedules on Martin Luther King Jr Day, some commuter trips do not operate, and other routes have individual trips canceled. Canceled commuter trips are marked with an “H” in timetables.

UW reductions affect designated weekday trips on routes 167, 271 and 277. Canceled UW trips are marked on the timetable with a “D”.

Metro offices, including the Customer Information phone line, Lost and Found and Pass Sales counters, are closed on Monday.

Ride transit to events & activities
Some Seattle area transit service will be affected by traffic and congestion associated with weekend and Monday’s Martin Luther King events.

Check your route’s timetable, including planning for the return trip.

Even if service is affected by street closures, temporary reroutes or delays, riding transit is still a great way to get to events and activities where there is often traffic congestion and limited parking. Buses that are rerouted around events still usually travel close to their regular route.

Temporary service disruptions are not reflected in Trip Planner itineraries. Look for ‘Alert!’ icons in trip planning results and the online Service Advisories table for updates.

The posted start and end times of transit service disruptions related to planned sporting, community or construction events may be subject to change.

Plan ahead. Use regularly published schedules, allow plenty of travel time and expect possible delays.

Connect 2020
Link service revisions
Through mid-March, Link light rail riders will experience service revisions as Sound Transit connects the East Link track with the existing infrastructure at International District / Chinatown Station.

For ten weeks, since January 4 and continuing to mid-March, construction crews are closing one track at a time, for five weeks each, in the downtown Seattle Transit Tunnel.

During this time, Link riders will experience reduced service and possibly more crowded trains, especially during peak hours, as Link operates with four-car trains and a reduced frequency of every 12 minutes.

Pioneer Square Station operation
Link through Seattle is temporarily operating as two lines. One line operates between the University of Washington and Pioneer Square Station, and the other operates between Angle Lake and Pioneer Square. Riders traveling through Pioneer Square Station change trains on a new center platform in order to continue in the same direction.

Metro Winter
If Metro service is significantly affected by snow or other weather-related events, the Metro website will be updated and Transit Alerts will be sent to affected subscribers.

Metro riders can prepare ahead by visiting Metro’s website and getting familiar with information about how Metro operates in the snow if needed, as well as the snow routing for the routes they ride when it is in effect.

Construction
Known construction-related impacts to transit service are posted in Metro’s online Service Advisories table and sent to Transit Alert subscribers.

It’s a good idea to sign up for Transit Alerts or otherwise check for a service advisory before you travel.

Transit service during unexpected or civic events
In areas where there are crowds, traffic, weather or civic events - whether scheduled or unexpected - disrupting normal travel patterns or activities, transit riders are advised to be aware of conditions in their immediate vicinity, such as street closures, detours, police directions, etc., and be prepared for delays or to make revisions to travel plans, such as using a different bus stop or a different route, based on specific circumstances.

During these kinds of events, be prepared for unexpectedly revised traffic or routing, and for delays in transit service. Transit riders are encouraged to know the alternate stops or routes that may be near their starting points and destinations.

Depending on the time and the nature of such events, Metro may not be able to provide real-time information or service updates via email or text. Event start and end times and other details may be subject to change.
