In a historic moment for the PSERN Project, the team conducted its first successful test of the new PSERN radio system. The PSERN team has been working many long and intense hours towards this moment for over five years and this was the moment that told us the system works. The team has completed many milestones to get to this moment including project planning, numerous lease negotiations, council actions, construction of radio towers and cores (the brains behind the whole PSERN system), and overall long and difficult days worked to reach this moment. This would not have been possible without the diligence, dedication, and hard work of our staff and partners.

We are excited to announce that the project’s governing body, the Joint Board, approved the PSERN Operator Interlocal Agreement (ILA). This agreement allows for the formation of the new PSERN Operator and must be approved by the 12 legislative bodies (11 cities and King County) that form the PSERN partners. This is a major accomplishment and a big milestone for the project. The PSERN Operator will be a "governmental non-profit" agency, independent of King County and it will own, operate, manage, upgrade, update, and repair the PSERN system. The operator assumes responsibility for PSERN once it goes live.
The project’s External Affairs (EA) team will be conducting outreach sessions and sending out a legislative packet to each partner agency in the coming weeks.
The External Affairs team has been working hard to revamp our website to meet your needs. We have added a project news section that will be updated every Friday with news regarding construction at different sites and general project news. We have also added an employment section to let you know about career opportunities and how you can join the PSERN team.
Visit https://psern.org/connect/news/ for all of your PSERN related news.
It is important that PSERN gets key information on in-building systems (BDA/DAS) throughout King County to aid with transition to the new system. So far, the project is aware that there are 618 buildings with DAS throughout the county but some critical data is missing. Please register your BDA/DAS today, and follow the registration and verification process listed below:
- Contact your Fire Marshal or Building Official to validate local code requirements for BDA/DAS.
- If using a broadband or Class “B” BDA/DAS, you must also register it with the Federal Communications Commission
- Contact your system manager to register your BDA - See the project's website for more information.
