Transit Alert – Metro operates reduced weekday service on Veterans Day; ride transit to the Sounders Match & weekend activities; expect some reroutes & delays; text your stop ID to 62550

Metro will operate its Reduced Weekday and University of Washington (UW) Reductions schedules on Veterans Day, Monday, November 11.

The Sounders MLS championship match on Sunday and community events in and around the Seattle area this weekend will affect transit service.

Expect possible delays or service disruptions near event venues, due to closed streets, and traffic congestion associated with activities and area construction projects.

Even if service is affected by street closures, temporary reroutes or delays, riding transit is still a great way to get to events and activities where there is often traffic congestion and limited parking.

Ride Metro with your ORCA card, or with a Transit GO ticket on your smart phone.  Transit GO offers day passes at $4 for youths aged 6-18, and $8 for adults aged 19-64

Buses that are rerouted around events, still usually travel close to their regular route.  Nearly all transit service that operates through downtown Seattle travels close to CenturyLink Field, or provides an easy transfer to service that does.

Look for ‘Alert!’ icons in trip planning queries and check for temporary disruptions that may affect your route.  Temporary service disruptions are not reflected in Trip Planner results.  Check the online Service Advisories table for updates.

The posted start and end times of transit service disruptions related to sporting, community or construction events may be subject to change. Plan ahead, use regularly published schedules, allow plenty of travel time and expect possible delays and other transit service will be affected by weekend events.

Veterans Day transit service on Monday, November 11
While most Metro routes operate their regular schedules on Veterans Day, a few commuter routes from areas mostly outside of Seattle, will not operate, and some others will operate fewer trips than on a regular weekday.

Metro makes some adjustments to routes that serve the University of Washington. When the UW is not in session, there are some bus trip reductions.

Most Metro and King County offices are closed Monday, including Metro's Customer Information, Lost and Found and pass sales offices.

For information about Veterans Day service provided by Metro’s regional partners, visit the Community TransitPierce TransitSound Transit or Washington State Ferries websites.

Due to varying road and traffic conditions, transit service can operate slightly ahead of schedule, or may be delayed.  Metro suggests being at your bus stop about 5 minutes ahead of your bus’s scheduled departure time.

SR 99 Tunnel tolling begins Saturday, November 9
Transit service in the SODO, downtown Seattle, Seattle Center and South Lake Union areas, may be affected by delays due to increased street traffic that is anticipated when some SR 99 tunnel users switch to using surface streets to avoid tolls.

The resulting change in traffic patterns and the affect it will have on transit service is unpredictable, but Metro will monitor and will manage resources to mitigate impacts.

Saturday, November 9
Auburn Veterans Day Parade
On Saturday, November 9, from 5:30 AM until 5:00 PM, Metro routes 180 and 181 will be rerouted in the downtown Auburn area during the Auburn Veterans Day Parade.

Magnolia Farmers Market

UW Student Veterans Life 5K
On Saturday, from 9:00 AM until 1:00 PM, Metro Routes 31, 32, 67, 75, 271 & 372 may experience delays due to the UW Student Veterans Life 5K.  There are no pre-planned reroutes associated with this event.

Free Speech March
On Saturday, from 12:30 PM until 5:00 PM, a Free speech March and Rally at Westlake Park may cause some service delays for bus routes traveling through the downtown area. There are no pre-planned reroutes for this event.

Sunday, November 10
Seattle Sounders FC MLS Cup Final - 12:00 Noon
Fans heading to the match are advised to expect possible transit service delays before Sunday’s MLS Cup Final at CenturyLink Field.

There is lots of regular transit service to and from the stadium area, including Link Red Line. Nearly all transit routes that travel to or through downtown Seattle stop near CenturyLink Field, and there are many area park-and-ride lots where fans can park for free, and ride regularly scheduled transit service to the stadium area.

Most game-related traffic impacts are expected to be in the SODO, Stadium, Pioneer Square, downtown Seattle and adjacent areas, however service that travels near or through those neighborhoods could be delayed in other areas as well.

Both regular transit commuters and soccer fans are advised to plan for delays and allow plenty of travel time in all areas.

Construction

It’s a good idea to sign up for Transit Alerts or otherwise check for a service advisory before you travel.

Transit service during unexpected or civic events
In areas where there are crowds, traffic, weather or civic events - whether scheduled or unexpected - disrupting normal travel patterns or activities, transit riders are advised to be aware of conditions in their immediate vicinity, such as street closures, detours, police directions, etc., and be prepared for delays or to make revisions to travel plans, such as using a different bus stop or a different route, based on specific circumstances.

During these kinds of events, be prepared for unexpectedly revised traffic or routing, and for delays in transit service. Transit riders are encouraged to know the alternate stops or routes that may be near their starting points and destinations.

Depending on the time and the nature of such events, Metro may not be able to provide real-time information or service updates via email or text.  Event start and end times and other details may be subject to change.
