Transit Alert Correction– Fall service revisions take effect Saturday; ride transit to weekend events, hiking, sports and other activities; expect some reroutes & delays; text your stop ID to 62550

Metro’s fall service revisions take effect Saturday, September 21, and Metro is a great way to get to weekend events and activities.

Fall service revisions include new green timetables; 1,350 new trips across 35 different routes; expanded frequency of service on 13 routes; and later evening service on 3 major routes.

Service Revisions
South King County
Metro bus routes 105, 164, 183 and DART 906 increase frequency of service from every 60 minutes to every 30 minutes, including weekends.

Increased frequency on other routes
These routes increase frequency of service:

  • RapidRide E Line – every 10 minutes
  • Routes 1, 14, 40, 41, 65, 67 & 120 – every 15 minutes, including weekends
  • Routes 40, 101 & 150 – adds later night service
  • Route 346 – every 30 minutes on weekday evenings
  • Des Moines Community Shuttle Route 635 – adds midday & Saturday service

Route 41 revised downtown routing and southbound 3rd Av & James St stop
Union Street operation:
In July, Route 41 to downtown Seattle was revised to travel via Union Street instead of Stewart Street in an effort to decrease delays due to traffic.  This move has had the desired results with reduced travel times and increased predictability and is being continued.

Third Avenue & James Street:
In March, Route 41 heading into downtown Seattle discontinued serving the stop on southbound 3rd Av just south of James St in order to be able to make its left turn onto Yesler Way.

Starting on Saturday, September 21, Route 41 will begin serving a new stop on southbound 3rd Av just north of James St. All other routes that previously stopped south of James Street will also now serve this new stop instead.

Service improvements
In addition to the previously mentioned routes, the following Metro routes have added trips or have had their schedules adjusted to reduce crowding and improve reliability: Routes 3, 5, 5 Express, 11, 15, 17, 18, 21, 22, 28, 36, 43, 44, 48, 60, 107, 116, 118, 119, 218, 252, 255, 271, 303, 311, 312, 372, 373, RapidRide C Line, RapidRide D Line, and Sound Transit Express Route 522.

September 21-22 Weekend Events
In addition to the beginning of Metro’s fall service revisions, transit service will be affected by several community and sporting events in and around King County this weekend, including civic marches, the Sounders Rave Green 5K Run and Seahawks football.

Expect possible delays or service disruptions near event venues, due to closed streets, and traffic congestion associated with community activities and area construction projects.

Even if service is affected by street closures, temporary reroutes or delays, riding transit is still a great way to get to events and activities where there is often traffic congestion and limited parking.

Ride Metro with your ORCA card, or with a Transit GO ticket on your smart phone.  Transit GO offers day passes at $4 for youths aged 6-18, and $8 for adults aged 19-64.

When buses are rerouted around events, they still usually travel close to the regular route.  Nearly all transit service that operates through downtown Seattle travels close to T-Mobile Park and CenturyLink Field, or provides an easy transfer to service that does.

Look for ‘Alert!’ icons in trip planning queries and check for temporary disruptions that may affect your route.  Temporary service disruptions are not reflected in Trip Planner results.  Check the online Service Advisories table for updates.

The posted start and end times of transit service disruptions related to sporting, community or construction events may be subject to change. Plan ahead, use regularly published schedules, allow plenty of travel time and expect possible delays.

Text for departures
Text your stop ID to
62550 to find out the next scheduled or estimated departure time of transit service at a stop.

Due to varying road and traffic conditions, transit service can operate slightly ahead of schedule, or may be delayed.  Metro suggests being at your bus stop about 5 minutes ahead of the scheduled departure time for your bus.

Ride transit to weekend activities
Metro encourages everyone to ride transit to and from events; be aware of activities in your area; use Metro’s online regional trip planner; plan ahead; allow plenty of time; plan your return trip; sign up for Transit Alerts, and check the online Service Advisories page before traveling, in order to know if there are expected service disruptions or reroutes that might affect your travel plans.

Trailhead Direct
Trailhead Direct is a seasonal service that operates on weekends and holidays between April and October during the hiking season.

Four Trailhead Direct routes provide service to the Issaquah Alps, Cougar Mountain, Mount Si & Mt Teneriffe and Mailbox Peak trailheads.

Riding Trailhead Direct requires payment of a regular Metro fare in both directions with cash, ORCA or the Transit GO mobile app.  Transit GO offers day passes at $4 for youths aged 6-18, and $8 for adults aged 19-64.

Hike safely. Take plenty of water. Let someone know where you are going and be aware that cell service availability may be limited.

Saturday, September 21

Route 31 will be rerouted during the Magnolia Farmers Market.

Construction
Known construction-related impacts to transit service are posted in Metro’s online Service Advisories table and sent to Transit Alert subscribers.

It’s a good idea to sign up for Transit Alerts or otherwise check for a service advisory before you travel.

Transit service during unexpected or civic events
In areas where there are crowds, traffic, weather or civic events, whether scheduled or unexpected, disrupting normal travel patterns or activities, transit riders are advised to be aware of conditions in their immediate vicinity – such as street closures, detours, police directions, etc. - and be prepared for delays or to make revisions to travel plans, such as using a different bus stop or a different route, based on specific circumstances.

During these kinds of events, be prepared for unexpectedly revised traffic or routing, and for delays in transit service. Transit riders are encouraged to know the alternate stops or routes that may be near their starting points and destinations.

Depending on the time and the nature of such events, Metro may not be able to provide real-time information or service updates via email or text.  Event start and end times and other details may be subject to change.
