Transit Alert – Ride transit to Sunday’s Rock ‘n’ Roll Marathon; expect reroutes & delays

On Sunday, June 9, from the start of service until the event clears and affected streets are re-opened, bus routes in the West Queen Anne, downtown Seattle, Fremont, Ballard, Seattle Pacific University (SPU), Queen Anne Hill, Aurora Av N and Green Lake areas, will be rerouted, delayed or unable to serve stops due to the Rock ‘n’ Roll Marathon.

For complete information about this event, visit the Rock ‘n’ Roll Marathon website.

Expected service impacts
Many buses will be rerouted.

Schedule delays are expected.

Delays in one area can cause delays at other points along a bus’s routing. With more than 25 bus routes affected, the impacts could be significant.

Transit service in adjacent areas and on other parts of routes that travel through the event areas may also be affected by delays in schedules.

Check Metro’s service advisories page for specific routing and stop information for affected routes.

If a route is not listed, its routing and stops are not revised.  However, any route, even if it is not otherwise revised, could still experience delays due to street closures and traffic associated with this event.

Aurora Avenue corridor
During this event, buses that normally use Aurora Av N will be rerouted via Dexter Av N.

Ballard, Fremont & North Queen Anne
For several hours on Sunday, buses will not be able to serve bus stops in either direction along NW Leary Way and Leary Av NW, or along eastbound Nickerson St.  Service advisories for specific routes describe routing and the stops to use.

Capitol Hill & Downtown Seattle
Several routes will not provide their usual service in the Capitol Hill and downtown areas.  Link light rail is an option for getting through downtown.

Seattle Center
Several routes that normally serve the east side of Seattle Center are rerouted, but still operate to within a few blocks or less of their usual routing.

Riding transit during the event
All transit riders who are in areas or use routes that could be affected by this large event are advised to plan ahead an allow plenty of time for their transit trips on Sunday.

Use regularly published transit schedules to plan your trip, but expect possible delays and allow plenty of time due to expected heavy traffic.

In most cases, bus service is expected to return to normal routing as soon as event participants have cleared each section of the course, however, transit riders should check specific reroute or event information for possible exceptions.

It can take up to a couple of hours for delays to subside and for service to get back on schedule

While buses that operate on surface streets in the areas around community events may be rerouted, riding transit is still the best way to get close to most events, as traffic is congested and parking limited.

Rerouted buses usually still go close to events in their service areas. Please use your route’s regularly posted schedule, then expect possible delays in congested areas.
