Transit Alert – Ride Metro to the Mariners home opener; expect traffic delays in the SODO, stadium and downtown Seattle areas

Transit riders are encouraged to ride transit to Mariners games and are also advised to be prepared for possible transit service delays and heavy traffic in the SODO, stadium and downtown Seattle areas during the Seattle Mariners 2019 opening home stand.

This season’s home opener is a sold out early afternoon game today, meaning that fans will be leaving the game and exiting the stadium and SODO areas at about the same time as most commuters are also trying to leave the downtown area.

Transit customers and all commuters are advised to be prepared for delays, and encouraged to allow plenty of time and be patient, or to revise travel plans if necessary.

Ride regularly scheduled Transit service to or near T-Mobile Park.  Most transit service that operates through downtown Seattle goes near the stadiums, or connects easily with service that does.

The King County West Seattle Water Taxi offers late sailings after evening Mariners games, as late as 10:45 PM for night games.

Regular fares apply. Expect traffic & possible transit delays before and after games on routes that serve SODO, stadium, Pioneer Square & downtown Seattle areas.

There is no special or premium Metro Transit service to or from Mariners games, and no planned reroutes of transit service due to currently scheduled Stadium events. With a lot of local construction projects and a reduced number of on-street parking spaces, bus, train, Water Taxi and ferry services provided by King County Metro Transit and its regional transit partners are excellent options for getting to and from Mariners games, however all forms of transportation are likely to be affected by traffic, crowds or delays associated with major events at Seattle’s sports and other venues.
