Launch of Dispatch Center Town Hall

In 2019, the transition of dispatch centers is a top priority for the PSERN Project and the beginning of the move from KCERCS to PSERN. Dispatch centers are part of the top priority for the PSERN system this year. As such, PSERN launched its first Dispatch Center Town Hall meeting this month.

The newly formed Town Halls are currently scheduled to be held monthly and will facilitate discussion between management, as well as operational/technical staff and the project. In these sessions the project will share project status updates and details of the dispatch center transition plan. In addition, these meetings will also serve as a way for the project to receive feedback from key dispatch center stakeholders.

The next Town Hall is scheduled for: February 15, 2019

Time: 1:00-2:30pm

Location: King County Regional Communications and Emergency Coordination Center (RCECC)

Radio Inventory Submissions

During the first week of January, the PSERN Outreach staff sent out emails requesting agencies to conduct inventories of their existing radios. The emails included detailed instructions with a sample inventory form and contact information for assistance. Without a radio inventory, the PSERN Project will be unable to replace agency radios. Your radio inventory must be submitted to PSERN-INFO@kingcounty.gov by March 29, 2019.

Contact the PSERN Outreach staff for any questions.

  • Call: 206-47-PSERN / 206-477-7376
  • Email: PSERN-INFO@kingcounty.gov

Also, visit the PSERN website to see a list of the standard features and functions for radios currently approved for replacement. When working on your agency radio inventory, keep in mind the following:

  • Radios will only be exchanged if they are active in the system.
  • Every active radio equals a monthly cost to your agency.
  • End of life consideration.
    • Radios exchanged for radio deployment are free to the agency but agencies should consider replacement cost at end of life. (Consider 10 years after purchase.)

In-Building Coverage Update

In August of 2018, the Joint Board approved three additional sites dedicated to in-building coverage to augment the increased coverage predicted throughout King County under PSERN. Through collaboration with system vendors and key stakeholders it was determined that Downtown Seattle, Downtown Bellevue, and the Boeing area of Renton would be the optimal locations for the additional sites. Bids from the system vendor should be considered for approval by the Joint Board in late spring 2019.
