Bond Rating
In July, the
King County Council unanimously approved our midyear budget. The midyear budget
is our opportunity for adjustments. It is a chance to ensure King County is
delivering public priorities, while maintaining a strong foundation of
financial responsibility and restraint.
As budget
chair, I am proud of our commitment to prudent stewardship of public dollars.
Our careful budgeting has improved our long-term debt rating, or ‘bond rating’,
to the highest AAA level by all three major rating agencies. This will allow
the county to save money in loan interest, and shows that we are making strong
financial decisions.
Senior
Center Funding
Earlier this
month, senior centers across the county received funding through the Veterans,
Seniors and Human Services Levy (VSHSL). These one-time funds will help centers
attract more seniors, make facilities accessible and position them to better
meet the needs of our growing senior population.
Senior
centers are important community hubs, and I’m proud that in our district the Renton
Senior Activity Center, the City of SeaTac Senior
Program, the City of Tukwila
Older Adults Program and the Des Moines/Normandy Park
Senior Activity Center will benefit from a combined $273,000 in
county funding.
Over the
next twelve months, grant dollars will go towards facility repairs, housing stability
services, meal program expansions and capital improvements, as well as outreach
for the senior property tax exemption program.

Summer Markets
This summer
I have been out in the community, attending farmer’s markets and summer
festivals. It’s been great to meet neighbors and new friends, and share a
little about the services King County provides.
